Chamomile aqueous extract
Description
Chamomile 1:2
A 1:2 chamomile extract is a concentrated tincture, where 1 part dried herb flowers is extracted into 2 parts solvent (usually alcohol/water).
Camomile 1:2 is a classic soothing botanical extract rich in apigenin, bisabolol, chamazulene precursors, and flavonoids. It is widely used in cosmetic formulations for its strong calming, anti‑redness, and anti‑irritant properties.
Chamomile is particularly effective for sensitive, reactive, or inflamed skin, helping reduce visible redness and discomfort while supporting a more even, comfortable complexion.
Mode of Action: apigenin and bisabolol modulate inflammatory pathways, reducing the appearance of irritation. Chamomile flavonoids provide antioxidant protection, helping defend against environmental stressors. The extract is especially beneficial in formulations targeting sensitivity, post‑treatment care, and daily soothing skincare.
Formulation guidelines:
Water‑soluble; incorporate into the water phase below 45 °C. Works synergistically with calendula, centella, aloe, and oat extracts. Avoid pairing with high‑alcohol systems that may reduce soothing efficacy.
Use level: 1–5%.
Solubility: Water‑soluble.
Applications: Sensitive‑skin creams, calming serums, baby care, after‑sun gels, soothing masks. Can be used in creams for dermatitis
Warnings: Side effects are rare but may include nausea, dizziness, or allergic reactions (especially if allergic to ragweed/daisies)
