Description

GrapeSeed hydroglyceric extract

GrapeSeed hydroglyceric extract is a water-soluble, liquid extract produced by extracting the bioactive compounds from Grape Seeds (Vitis vinifera) using a mixture of glycerin (glycerol) and water. This method is a “green,” environmentally friendly extraction technique that does not rely on synthetic organic solvents, making it popular for cosmetic applications.  It is a popular, alcohol-free, and solvent-free extraction method commonly used in natural cosmetics and for well-being preparations to extract hydrophilic (water-soluble) components such as polyphenols, flavonoids, and minerals.

Key Characteristics

Composition: The extract is rich in phenolic compounds, specifically oligomeric proanthocyanidins (OPCs), catechins, epicatechins, and gallic acid.  It is commonly used for its high antioxidant capacity—often cited as superior to vitamins E and C—due to its rich concentration of oligomeric proanthocyanidins
Solubility: It is water-soluble, making it ideal for incorporating into water-based products (aqueous phase of emulsions), such as creams, serums, and lotions.
Appearance/Solvent: Typically a liquid form (glycerine-based), designed to deliver high concentrations of antioxidants.
Density: As it is glycerin-based, it is denser than water (specific gravity > 1.10).

Main Components & Benefits

The hydroglyceric extraction method successfully extracts powerful antioxidants from the seeds, providing several benefits, particularly in skincare:
High Antioxidant Content: It is a potent free-radical scavenger, often cited for its ability to fight oxidative stress.
Cosmetic Applications: Known for anti-aging, photoprotection, anti-inflammatory, and anti-irritant properties, it is commonly used for anti-acne, purifying, and hair care products.
Stability: When incorporated into skincare formulations, hydro-glyceric extracts have shown stability in phenolic content over time at various temperatures (e.g., 4°C to 50°C).

INCI Name:

Glycerin (and) Water (and) Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Extract (and) Potassium Sorbate (and) Sodium Benzoate

Please note: Glycerine based extracts are sold in grams and not millilitres. Glycerine extracts have a specific gravity greater than 1.25, this means that they are more dense or heavier than water and  thus 1g/1Kg will not equal 1ml/1Lt
