Burdock extract
Description
Great Burdock Extract ws
Great Burdock is a purifying botanical extract, rich in inulin, polyphenols, lignans, and mucilage polysaccharides. Traditionally used for its clarifying and balancing properties, burdock is especially beneficial for combination and oily skin. It helps refine the appearance of pores, reduce surface oiliness, and support a clearer complexion. Its soothing and conditioning properties also make it suitable for sensitive or problem‑prone skin.
Mode of action, inulin acts as a prebiotic polysaccharide that supports a balanced skin microbiome. Polyphenols provide antioxidant protection, while lignans contribute to anti‑inflammatory activity. Burdock’s mild astringency helps refine skin texture and reduce excess sebum.
Formulation guidelines:
Water‑soluble; incorporate into the water phase below 45 °C. Works well with willow bark, sage, rosemary, and niacinamide in clarifying systems.
Use level: 1–5%.
Solubility: Water‑soluble.
Applications: Clarifying toners, balancing serums, anti‑blemish lotions, scalp‑purifying products.
The dried root from plants of the first year’s growth forms the official extract, but the leaves and fruits (commonly, though erroneously, called seeds) are also used. Has found application in all skin diseases, it is a certain remedy and has assisted in many cases of eczema, either used alone or combined with other extracts. Also used as hair growth promotor and is used as a anti dandruff agent in shampoo.
